DescriptionCollection pertaining to Marianne Wechsler, nee Korn, born 5.1.1912 in Vienna, migrating from Austria to Belgium in December 1938; from there to England in February 1939, then granted visa to Cuba – to France – Marseille & Bilbao – Havanna in 1941. Whilst she managed to migrate to England in 1939, her husband was unable to join her and so Marianne later returned to Marseille where together, they sought migration avenues elsewehere.
The rain coat was the property of Marianne's Father's first wife Herta Kom (nee Breuer). In 1939 she fled from Austria to Yugoslavia, then found employment as a nanny with a Greek family in Athens. When she was deported, the coat was left behind with the Greek family, together with a small locket (which is still in the donor's possession) until after the war. Whilst making enquiries through the Red Cross, Marianne learned Herta's story and the Coat and the Locket were returned to her.
