Description1 Koruna note, one side featuring an allegorical woman - Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap, and the other, the coat of arms of Czechoslovakia (rampant double-tailed lion with Slovak shield). Introduced into circulation 9 Feb 1940 and 31 May 1940. Print Tiskarna bankovek Narodni banky ceskoslovenske. Designed by Bohumil Heinz and Bedrich Vojtasek.
Prepared in 1938 due to the shortage of small change, unissued, later overprinted for Bohemia & Moravia. The Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia was the majority ethnic-Czech protectorate which Nazi Germany established in the central parts of Bohemia, Moravia and Czech Silesia, in what is today the Czech Republic. It was established on 15 March 1939 by proclamaition of Adolph Hitler following the declaration of the establishment of the independent Slovak Republic on 14 March 1939. Bohemia and Moravia were autonomous Nazi-administered territories, which the German Government considered part of the Greater German Reich.
Part of a collection of photographs, medical records, identity documents, postcards, letters, 1943 pocket book, hand-made leather book mark, deportation slips and yellow cloth Star of David donated by Hana Novotny (nee Lipa), born 1926, in Jaromer, Czechoslovakia, and deported to Theresienstadt 10 August 1942.
