False Identity Card
Object numberM1994/004
TitleFalse Identity Card
DescriptionIdentity card with B&W photo of Alfred Politzer, born 13 March 1926 in Puchov, Czechoslovakia. Alfred used the name and birth date of a non-Jewish school friend, Jozef Šebek, on his identification papers, unbeknown to his friend. As an added touch, Alfred is wearing a hat that is typical of the local Nazi youth. The ID was stamped by a police officer who assisted Jews in exchange for bribes. Alfred used this ID when travelling on trains so that he could take off his yellow Star of David and avoid being recognised and as Jew and beaten up. Donated by Alfred Parker (Politzer)
