After moving to Australia in 1982, he briefly pursued a career as a folk singer. Since the late 1980s, Santos has focused his creative work on the Jewish Diaspora, capturing their experiences through photography across the world. His photographs are featured in a number of museum collections, including the National Gallery of Victoria, Jewish Museum of Australia, Bibliothèque nationale de France, State Library of Victoria, Victorian Arts Centre, Jewish Holocaust Centre, and the National Library of Australia.
