Titlerings
DescriptionSilver ceremonial communal Jewish wedding ring. The ring is surmounted by an ornate pavilion. 'Mazal' and 'Tov' is inscribed in Hebrew on two sides. The ring would be used when a married couple could not afford a ring and one would be provided by the community for the occasion. This example was purchased by the Sydney Jewish Museum for the display on the Marriage Ceremony.
Research suggests that the design is based on known medieval Jewish rings with houses on top, but none of them are large and all of them fit a women's finger properly. The later large houses, like this one, would never have been worn, and are replica's.
