DescriptionHand made, well used candle holder, Hungary, 1940s. Described by the donor, Ferenc Vadesz: "I found this candle holder in Sátoraljaújhely in the ruins a few years after the Holocaust. It gave light in one of the small chapels (rooms) where religious people read (studied) the Talmud. In 1944, someone still preserved it; it had not been taken away from him or her because it was of no value. When the candle glimmered for the last time, its owner was in Auschwitz, where, in a gas chamber, he or she also blew out."
