DescriptionLetter of reference from Shanghai Jewish Youth Association School, from headmistress Lucie Hartwich. Certifying employment of Eszther Szekeres as a teacher at the school from 1st November 1945 until 15th June 1948. "During her time with us, Mrs Szekeres has been called upon to teach Arithmetic to children of all ages, Mathematics and science to the higher classes and to prepare students for the Cambridge Oversea School Certificate Examinations". She is an excellent teacher whose lucid presentations facilitate the understanding of the most difficult topics.
Letter served as an employment reference which helped in gaining permission to emigrate to Australia. From Hungary, George Szekeres and his wife Eszther spent several years in Shanghai, then migrated to Australia in 1948. He became a Professor at Adelaide University, and she worked as a teacher in Adelaide, South Australia.
