DescriptionHungarian Passport for Arminne Szekeres, nee Margit Zipser, born 1883, issued in Budapest, 3 July 1951. Passport contains visa for travel to Australia, arrival stamp in Freemantle, W.A. on 8 September 1951.
Arminne Szekeres, mother of George Szekeres, emigrated to Australia in 1951, and was naturalised as an Australian Citizen in 1957. George Szekeres had spent several years in Shanghai before emigrating to Australia in 1948.
George's mother's name was Margit Zipser; when she married she became Szekeres Arminne (in "proper" Hungarian, there is an acute accent on the last e of Arminne), which is the Hungarian equivalent of Mrs Armin Szekeres. Apparently only close friends knew the "real" name of a Hungarian woman. This naming system changed in 1952.
