DescriptionSong book printed in 1944 belonging to Erwin Hayman. Erwin Hayman (previously Heimann) was born in 1928 is Posen, Poland, and later lived in Berlin. In 1938 when he was 10 years old, Erwin immigrated to Sydney with his parents Arthur and Clara and his sister Johanna, arriving on 12 September. Erwin was educated in Hebrew through the NSW board of Jewish Education’s Central Synagogue Centre. Children’s singing for services on High Holy days was a regular part of the work in classes at the central synagogue under headmaster Abraham Rothfield. A good proportion of the students in his classes made up the synagogue choir. Erwin received many merit awards for his studies and was very active in the Jewish community throughout his life.
