DescriptionPhotograph of Ervin Teichner, a lawyer born 5 December 1907 in Budapest, Hungary. Ervin was called up to register for labour duty in June 1944, leaving his wife Rosa and two daughters, Eva aged 7 and Kathe aged 6. Despite securing an exemption certificate, he was directed on to a train bound for Auschwitz. Ervin threw out a card from the train which was forwarded to Rosa. Eva recalls the message on this card as “You’ll take care of yourself, I’ll be ok”. He was transferred to Sachsenhausen and from there to Flossenbürg concentration camp where he was murdered on 4 March 1944. Rosa, Eva and Kathe hid in safe houses for the remainder of the war and eventually escaped to Vienna and then Australia, arriving in January 1951.
