Zara and Hyman Pearlman had three children; Lesley born 1950, Yvonne born 1952 and Alan born 1956. The Pearlman family were wheat farmers and lived in Moree NSW and the children participated in a correspondence course organised by the United Jewish Education Board from 1956-62. The course was run by Cala Rosenberg and Ella Barr, and linked Jewish families in regional areas in Victoria, Tasmania, New South Wales and New Zealand. Jewish correspondence courses kept families in touch, facilitated learning for young people and created a support network that was in this case international. In her letter, Carla talks of sending prizes for achievement, their annual magazine and an upcoming trip for the Pearlman family to Melbourne where they would meet Cala and Ella.
