DescriptionLetter from Adolf and Rosa Abeles to their children, 22 January 1937.
Adolf and Rosa Abeles lived in Brno, Czechoslovakia and had two sons, who both escaped Germany. Bedrich Fritz Albera, was born 27 February 1904 in Brno. He changed his name from Abeles to Albera in 1933, at the suggestion of his mother since his business trading name was Albera. With worsening conditions in Czechoslovakia it was decided that (Bedrich) Fritz should leave to find a new home and bring his pregnant wife later. Fritz was attempting to get to Palestine to join his brother but was caught by the British and interned in Mauritius for 4 years. He was released when he was given the opportunity to join the South African Army.
Adolf died of natural causes, though with much suffering, on 22 August 1941. Rosa was deported to Terezin on 2 December 1941 and from there to Riga where she was murdered.

My dear ones!
So everythings fine, practical and usrful new things.
Warm feet which are good for winter.
It would be a big advantage if your rooms would be heated during this cold season which would be reasonable and not expensive, because you have the electricity in your building.
There’re small electrical ovens which need little electricity and for you it would be a relief.
It’s good that you’re ….. Has not been playing up this year, continue to be careful and better oyt on warmer clothes than lighter ones.
The pussyness of the linger has nothing to with it. It was a … a wound which was closed, still was pussy and therefore has attached the tendon.
You have to thank god that there was no bigger disadvantage in the bones and hasn’t attacked the bones. You’re not allowed to neglect even the smallest injury but bandage and treat it.
(Don’t know how to translate Felderde) is effective with small wounds on feet and hands if not treated with an antiseptic. I have often enough taken farmers with these cases to hospital because they had tetnus cramps with blood poisoning.
So be careful, don’t neglect it.
Shifra is probably already a good cook and she’ll have enough work.
Is Lilischka already allowed to shower and is she getting something to ….
Beno is soon able to walk but is teething and hates sometimes fever and bad moods.

My dear children,
Your dear letter from you darling has been crossed in the mail and hope that you’ll get it.
We were very interested to read the satisfactory and pleasant reports (can’t read next word) we know that you’re struggling very much, use’re very proud of you and that thanks to your efficiency and your sense of duty so valuable workers for the group (can’t read next word) and people are admiring especially you darling about such an important job and nobody should easily substitute you.
It makes us proud but as well the whole group that you even tried and tested your specialised knowledge written in an article and this one was published in a trade journal!
If you had time and peace for another study, you could become a professor.
Friz and father regret that you haven’t send us the journal (Hebrew word) and humble knowledge in Hebrew and would be sufficient to translate you’re treatise.
(Hebrew words) is unfortunately in Erez (Israel) and my class mate here has been taken by me, so that I’m not taking now any lessons and I’m repeating from time to time not to forget everything.
Yes our … has as well admirable work and is eager to learn will be experienced in all areas and will get used to the work, a true valuable member.
Your girls and women are as capable in every aspect and in the sad months of unrest with the weapons in the hand (Hebrew word).
We know about it and were even looking yesterday at the new Palestine slide lectures.
Father is always very disappointed if nothing is shown of the country, but mostly the latest settlements are shown and the latest building in the cities and at the Carmel.
With a heavy heart one sees the splendour and the hard work which created all this and one trembles knowing what’s coming now.
You’re lucky that your children should let you forget your problems and (can’t read the next word) hear it in those difficult times. Your big girl, the sweet boy.
