DescriptionPhotograph of the South Coast Hebrew Congregation’s Hebrew class in 1962. In the back stands Mr. Angel Dobelsky, an employee of the NSW department of Jewish Education, who also took part in the establishment and growth of the congregation. Mr Dobelsky conducted the first Bar Mitzvah celebrated at the South Coast Hebrew Congregation in February 1963. The Bar Mitzvah boy was Michael Reed, the son of the congregation’s President Mr Warner Reed and his wife Ursula. Michael is seen in this photo, fourth from the left, along with his siblings Alan and Vivien.
The students (from left to right) include: David Fisher, Alan Reed, Geoffrey Stern, Michael Reed, Fay Pearl, Jennifer Bluth, Vivien Reed, Roslyn Stern, Miriam Pearl, Diane Bluth, and Amanda Goldman.
This photograph is part of a collection documenting significant events from the establishment of the South Coast Hebrew Congregation in 1961 to its closure in 1981. The collection was donated in memory of Warner Reed z”l, who was instrumental in founding The South Coast Hebrew Congregation and was President of the congregation for seven years.
