DescriptionGerman Jewish Prayer book for women by Rabbi Dr. Max Grunwald, printed in German and Hebrew, published Vienna, 1907. The book contains ethical and moral teachings that are relevant to Jewish women, from religious texts which are quoted in Hebrew and translated in German.
Inside the book is a Yahrzeit card in the names of David Klein and Jenny Klein. David Klein may have been an enlisted member of the Austro-Hungarian Army and died at the end of World War I, 15 February 1918. Jenny Klein, died 22 July 1944, could have been a victim of the Nazi occupation of Hungary, which began in March 1944. 440,000 Hungarian Jews were transported to Auschwitz between March and July, and 80% died upon arrival. Yahrziet cards commemorate the annual anniversary of a loved ones death, and is marked by lighting a candle and reciting Kaddish.
The items were donated by Jo Marx, on the behalf of an elderly female Holocaust survivor who wished to remain anonymous.
