DescriptionA set of recordings on six vinyl sound records, collectively titled: ‘Deutschlands Weg in die Diktatur: Originalaufnahmen aus den jahren von 1914 bis 1939’. One record is soundbites of speeches given by Adolf Hitler, 1932 to 1945. There is another pertaining to speeches delivered by Joseph Goebbels spanning a similar period and a third with content from Heinrich Himmler, Adolf Eichmann , Hermann Goring and other high ranking Nazis. Each of these three records has a corresponding information booklet. There are three separate records featuring a German speaking narrator and sound bites form the period proceeding 1932. There are also two other booklets amidst the collection; one containing historical background and the other is an index.
Whist the date of publication is difficult to confirm, the last soundbite was captured at the trial of Adolf Eichmann in 1961; presumably, this collection was compiled shortly after. The reverse page of the index states: ‘Printed in Western Germany…” suggesting its publication lies somewhere between 1961-1990; prior to the reunification and post the last dated recording. Seemingly, the compilation is study of the language and rhetoric systematized by the regime, perhaps functioning as study and caution.
