Sol Krasnostein was born in Perth, 9th May 1922. His parents were from Palestine and moved to Perth in 1912. Just before Krasnostein’s Bar Mitzvah his family was in a car accident and his father and eldest sister were killed. He left school at the point to get a job to help support his family.
In the lead up to the war, Krasnostein remembers Rabbi Freedman called the community to a meeting at the shul to say there was going to be a war and to make sure the Jewish community was represented. He encouraged the boys to join the militia.
He then enlisted on 18 Jul 1942. Krasnostein trained diligently and eventually became an instructor was training others how to operate the guns. He was also a PT instructor.
