Maadi Einfeld was born in Newcastle, NSW in 1923. Her father, Maurice Sussman, served with the Australian Field Artillery during World War I. Maadi felt very patriotic and was keen to help when war was declared. She joined the Voluntary Aid Battalion as soon as she was able to leave school. In 1941 she moved to Sydney and got a job with the Missing, Wounded and POW Department of the Red Cross. She also joined the Voluntary Aid Group in Sydney.
Maadi was married during the war to John Einfeld who was a Captain in the Australian Forces and served in New Guinea. She continued to volunteer in the Jewish community and was an accomplished artist.
She passed away in 2021.
