Stella was born in Woollahra in 1919. Her family moved between regional centres such as the Murrumbidgee and Newcastle. She undertook trade training in the fashion industry before she eventually moved at age 22 to Sydney to undertake war work. She remembers the declaration of war and trying to assist her boyfriend at the time, a German Jewish refugee, in getting passage for his father.
She assisted her uncle to manufacture the kapok filled life jacket and hospital marquees in canvas with L. V Bernhard & Company.
After the war she and her husband, Max, established Cornelius Furs. She passed away in December 2010.
