TitleCertificate for the Bronze Cross of Honour of the German Mother awarded to Dora Cunz
DescriptionA bronze third class 'Cross of Honour of the German Mother' dated 16 December 1938, printed with the signature of Adolf Hitler. There is an associated conferment certificate from the German government with official facsimile signatures of the Fuhrer Adolf Hitler and the head of the Office of the President of Germany Otto Meissner. The certificate states that the cross is given to Dora Cunz nee Herborn on 1 October 1939; it features an embossed Nazi Germany coat of arms.
The 'Honour of the German Mother' was only given to mothers considered to be of 'worthy' status who had children of provable German blood, with no genetic issues. The bronze class required the mother to have had four to five children with these requirements. The silver required six to seven children, and the gold eight or more. The medals could be reclaimed if the mothers were found 'unworthy' by not raising the children with approved Nazi ideals. It is approximated that 4.7 million of these medals were awarded between 1938 and 1944.
