DescriptionType C photographic print titled 'Woman of Valour' by Anne Zahalka, 2009.
This artwork ‘Woman of Valour (Sue Saxon)’ 2009 was developed for an exhibition about the representation of women the bible. Commissioned works by invited artists for ‘Women in the Bible’ by the Jewish Museum of Australia. It explored ways in which women in the Bible have been interpreted throughout history, through artworks and ritual objects depicting a selection of female biblical characters.
"It is a unique work representing Sue Saxon, a significant cultural worker represented in her home in Sydney and the multiple roles she plays as an artist, mother, wife, and keeper of house and family history. All the signs of her endevours are made visible - the tools of her practices carefully arranged as an elaborate still life with her heirlooms such as the candelabra and her eggshell harvest for the beautiful artworks she has created such as ‘Other to Me’ hanging on the wall behind. The biblical text of Woman of Valour is projected in Hebrew eminating from the doorway to the right proclaiming the limitless deopths of her abilities, her goodness, wisdom and worth." Anne Zahalka, 2024.
