DescriptionBox for the Australian Service Medal awarded to Australian Military personnel or those serving in the Australian Forces who performed full-time duty for not less than 18 months or part-time duty for not less than 3 years. This medal was awarded to PTE Heinz Baum, N221646, of the 21 Works Company in Australia and has his name and number engraved on the rim. There are 7 parts to this object (a-g): a) medal: round and silver-coloured with head of King George VI on one side and the Australian coat of arms with 1939-1945 and The Australian Service Medal on the other; b) ribbon: a khaki ribbon edged dark blue and light blue respectively with 2 intervening red stripes; c) document: from the Australian Military Forces to Heinz Baum dated 3 July 1950 mentioning his entitlement to The War Medal and The Australian Service Medal, but indicating that it will take some time to receive them. It appears that this letter accompanied a General Service Badge (No A8232) that was not a part of this donation); d) document: Pro Forma 26 describing the Australian Service Medal and its condition of award; e) card: with compliments card from the Minister of State for the Army; f) note: directing enquiries to the Army Medal Section, Melbourne; g) box: cardboard box to hold medal and ribbon.
