DescriptionBritish War Medal 1939/1945 awarded to full-time personnel of the Armed Forces (of any nation in the British Commonwealth) for a total of not less than 28 days operational or non-operational service. This medal was awarded to PTE Heinz Baum, N 221646, of the 21 Works Company in Australia and has his name and number engraved on the rim. There are 6 parts to this object (a-f): a) medal: round and silver-coloured with head of King George VI on one side and the lion conquering the dragon on the other; b) ribbon: narrow central red stripe with a narrow white stripe on either side, a broad red stripe at each edge with two intervening blue stripes; c) list: printed summary of conditions of awards and description of medals with check marks indicating which medals Heinz Baum will receive (the War Medal 1939/45 and the Australian Service Medal); d) box: cardboard box to hold medal and ribbon; e) card: with compliments card from the Minister of State for the Army; f) note: directing enquiries to the Army Medal Section, Melbourne.
