DescriptionRoyal Doulton bone china miniature figure of Fagin, designed by Leslie Harradine from the Dickens series.
Fagin is a character from Charles Dickens' novel 'Oliver Twist'. He is portrayed with a long beard, large nose, thick eyebrows and hooded eyes; all stereotypical physical features attributed to Jewish men.
The character is the antagonist leader of a gang of homeless young boys and teaches them how to pickpocket and 'fence' their stolen goods. He attempts to corrupt Oliver in the same way. He is repeatedly referred to as "the Jew" throughout the book and also emphasized as a greedy, exploitative and cowardly character.
