Mascha Benyakonsky (Benya-Matz) was an opera singer with the Kulturbund ensemble in Berlin from 1937-38. She describes Berlin in the early 1930s as an exciting place. When concert halls were unavailable to Jewish artists, she sang at home concerts in private homes and synagogues
