The ambiguous position of controversial philosopher/theologian Karl Barth (1886-1945) vis a vis the Nazi regime at its inception in 1933 is examined in the light of his reaction to the so-called "Aryan Paragraph" excluding those with Jewish ancestral blood from the ranks of German pastors. The verdict is that Barth, within certain constraints, displayed sharp opposition to National Socialist rule. To that extent, we have here a revisionist attempt to rehabilitate his posthumous reputation.
