In 1938 an organization called OSE began buying castles in Southern France to serve as shelters for refugee children.OSE invited Papanek to become the director of these homes.Later with the German invasion of France he tried to have the youngsters sent to New York and placed in foster homes around the country.This is his own account of the times and the progressive educational theories that evolved
