ОписаниеBlack and white photographic print titled 'Chanukah on the bay, Double Bay, 2014'. Image depicts a large crowd of men, women and children outside, eating, drinking, and dancing.
This collection of 12 images were donated by photographer D-Mo Zajac. D-Mo was raised as a Protestant Christian in Poland, but when D-Mo was 32, her mother revealed to her the secret of her grandmothers Jewish heritage.
In 2010, and inspired by this discovery, D-Mo set out to document the religious life of Sydneys Orthodox community, capturing private and communal moments. Her work aims to capture her personal journey of self-discovery and budding sense of belonging through engagement with the community.
D-mo has previously exhibited her work at the State Library of New South Wales and as part of the Head on Photo Festival. Recent works have focused on the experience of the Sydney
Sudanese refugee community and the migrant experience.
These images were on display in the Picture Gallery wall of the Sydney Jewish Museum, October 2017 April 2018. "
