ОписаниеThis is an example of a baby’s gown from the early 20th Century. Fashioned from silk, handmade lace and mother-of-pearl buttons, the garment belonged to Fleurette Tibi, who was born to Mordachai and Perla in Cairo, on October 22 1922.
According to her family, the gown was worn when the Rabbi made the b’rakah for her (blessing), or perhaps when her father was called to the bima to read. It represents the vitality of Jewish faith, life and customs in Egypt throughout the period, and its aesthetic qualities are a reminder and testament of an age gone by.
