Examines debates surrounding the development of a Holocaust gallery at Britain's Imperial War Museum against a background of widespread public indifference to the Holocaust and its significance among the wider population. While some considered the Imperial War Museum a suitable site, others equated it with an outmoded "imperial" ideology. The choice of venue was determined, in part, by unabashedly commercial considerations. At the time of writing, the Holocaust gallery had not yet opened; that was due to occur in 1999.
