НазваниеThe Festival Prayers vol V part II
ОписаниеVolume V part II of a set of prayer books for the Festivals in English and Hebrew. This volume is for the Day of Atonement according to the custom of the German and Polish Jews. In the front of the book is an inscription dating 1866 from the President of the Macquarie Street Synagogue to P.S. Solomon thanking him for services rendered. There is a second inscription regarding his son who inherited them.

The Macquarie Street Synagogue was established on 29 June 1859 following a split in the community. In 1859 there was a controversy regarding the circumcision of a boy whose mother was a gentile and father was a cohen. The new congregation, initially called the New Sydney Synagogue, was established on 29 June 1859 under the leadership of Samuel Cohen. P.J. Cohen was one of its stalwarts until his death in 1864. Its premises were formerly the first Baptist Chapel in Sydney. The Reverend Solomon Phillips was appointed minister and served for 15 years. The Macquarie Street Congregation was much smaller than that in York Street and services were less regular.

The community was reunited with the opening of the Great Synagogue.
