ОписаниеHandkerchief given to Vera Noklov after her liberation. On 14 May 1945 she left Terezin on foot for the railway station where she approached strangers for the fare to Prague. Arriving in Prague, still in rags, she attempted to find somewhere to sleep. After two refusals she was welcomed by a friend of her sister's. The next day she was given a dress and handkerchief by the Jewish Welfare Society (Kehillat). She was also given some money from the Czechoslovak repatriation allies. The initials ML feature in the bottom left corner of the handkerchief.

Vera Nokolo (nee Fischer) (now Meyer), born 1915 in Prague, was deported to Theresienstadt in 1943. In October 1944 she was transported to Auschwitz. From November 1944 until the end of February 1945 she was incarcerated in Bergen-Belsen, then transferred to Buchenwald and later sent on a work-transport to nearby Raguhn Dessau labour camp, Germany, that produced aeroplane parts for Junkers. She worked in the airplane factory hammering rivets into the wings. She was evacuated on the Death March back to Theresienstadt, where she was liberated by the Russians in May 1945.

Donated by Vera Meyer (nee Fischer) - first husband Paul Noklov whom she married in April 1939 died on the day of liberation in Auschwitz.
