ОписаниеThis card allows a single entry to the ‘café’ (Kaffeehaus) in Terezin ghetto on a specified date and time (18 December 1942 between 2 – 3.45pm) and entitles the bearer to one drink. Name of the holder is not recorded, we only know his or her number (269) . It is mounted on cardboard, so it is possible that there could be information on reverse.

This small and seemingly minor card documents the rigid nature of the Nazi’s administration. All aspects of life in the ghetto were strictly managed and regulated. Every movement required permission and needed to be recorded, day after day, hour after hour… Similarly like other documents in Eva Gertler collection, it is assumed that this café entry permission card was issued by the Terezin Ghetto Jewish self-administration to either Moric or Greta Kohn. The Jewish self-administration worked under the Nazi control and was charged with implementation of many ghetto’s regulations and restrictions.

The card was brought to Australia in 1948 by Moric Kohn.
