The image shows baby Adriana Knevel, daughter of Mrs Ann Maria Knevel, being cared for after the Dutch liner on which she was aboard, the "Simon Bolivar", was sunk by a German magnetic mine on 18 November 1939. The ship went down in the North Sea, off the east coast of Britain. Adriana's right eye was injured, but she survived the disaster which claimed 82 of the 389 passengers aboard.
