ОписаниеMatzoh plate, brass, square, 4 tier. The top tier is ornamented with Pesach written in Hebrew and the six items on the seder plate written around it. Two handles adorn the top layer and depict different scenes in hand-cut fret work - one depicts slave labour with the quote from the Haggadah "The Jewish people worked in Egypt under duress" and the other depicts the Exodus with the quote from the Haggadah "And we went out of Egypt with a strong hand and clenched fist". On the back of the handles reads Oppenheim Israel - a well-known artisan specializing in brass traditional items of Judaica.

The donor, Mrs Esther Tuvel nee Deutsh, was born in Romania in 1930. The family survived the Holocaust by hiding from town to town. In 1960, Esther and her husband and son, Hershel, immigrated to Australia. She received this matzoh holder from her parents during a visit to them in New York in 1969-1970. The original source is possibly Esther's aunt, Raizel Deutsh, in Palestine/Israel.
