ОписаниеHandwritten list of dowry items, in German, compiled by Charlotte Ostentag. It lists posessions such as silverware, dinnersets, crystal glassware, linen, blankets and cushions. It also asks the recipient of the list (unknown, most likely her fiance Mahir Lutufmen) to send her a list of books he owns so that she doesn’t bring doubles.

Part of a collection of letters, documents, postcards and photographs belonging to Charlotte Lutufmen (nee Ostertag) born in Hannover, Germany 3 April 1908. Charlotte was engaged to Max Loewenstein before the war. He lived in Turkey, changed his name to Mahir Lutufmen, changed his religion to Islam, and got Turkish citizenship while working for a Dutch tobacco company. Charlotte was unable to obtain a permit to leave Germany and marry her fiancee. In December 1941, age 33, she was deported to Riga Ghetto. In September 1943 she was sent to do forced labour. Then in August 1944 she was deported to Kaiserwald, a month later to Stutthoff and then Sofienwalde from October 1944 to February 1945. Charlotte lost all of her toes to frost-bite during the death march back to Germany. After the war Charlotte and Max were reunited and married in Suelbeck, Germany, in 1947. Charlotte was 39 and Max was 45. She then moved to Turkey with him. A few years later they moved to Australia where she became an Australian citizen in 1955. Several documents in the collection relate to restitution claims.
