Examines why the United States failed to bomb the Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp and the rail lines leading to it.The question whether the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) could or should have attempted bombing, although speculative and hypothetical, is not detached from the former, purely historical one. On the contrary, the two are inseparable. For in order to determine the American motivation for not bombing, it is necessary to asses the genuineness and sincerity of the arguments with which the bombing appeals were rejected in 1944.
