    ОписаниеWood carving of a house by a stream, carved and painted by a German P.O.W. at Tobruk for Officer Victor M. Smith in appreciation of his kind treatment of Prisoner's of War. Victor M. Smith, Jewish, joined the British Army as a Private in 1939 and left the army in 1948 as a Lt. Colonel. His humane treatment of German P.O.W.s in Tobruk brought him thanks and many letters from the P.O.W.s. V.M. Smith was later in Holland with the British 21 Army Group. He emigrated to Australia, and died in 1968.
