Rabbi Dr Joseph Abrahams was the longest serving chief minister (1883-1919)of the Melbourne Hebrew Congregation and the leading rabbi of his time. Expands upon his earlier years when he had unsuccessfully applied as Haham (Sephardim in England) and the position of Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of the British Empire. Comparison is made between him and two of his brothers.
