Description

This paper aims to highlight the approach taken by European Jewish museums to the question of how, to what end and in which context video footage or videotaped testimonies can be used, presented and displayed. It questions the purpose of displaying video testimonies of Holocaust survivors in permanent exhibitions. Jewish museums are neither Holocaust museums nor memorials, and do not focus soley on the history of the Jewish people during the Nazi regime. Jewish museums, unlike those in the UK or USA are mostly funded by the state, not by the Jewish communities
