Description
Miriam Novitch was a Holocaust survivor and a key figure in the Ghetto Fighter's House in Israel. This article describes her intensive work to document the Holocaust. Although her contribution was of the utmost importance she is rarely mentioned in public in Israel. There are several reasons for this contradiction: she represented spiritual rather than armed resistance; she worked behind the scenes, her documentary work was apolitical; and because of her unique character, she never thought her personal story was of public interest. When regarded from a gender perspective, all these reasons gain additional weight.
