Description

Gives a history of early relations between English and Australian Jewry, and the obstacles these relations put in the way of a Sydney Beth Din. After many false starts, a Beth Din based in Sydney, with limited powers, was set up, and then in 1905 Rev. Francis Lyon Cohen formed a new, more independent, Beth Din, associated with the Great Synagogue.
