Description

Survey embodies "snapshot" of public opinion in Poland on Auschwitz in the year 2000. It reveals varying perceptions of victims' numbers: were there more Poles than Jews? Do Poles acknowledge the Jewish symbolism of Auschwitz or do they nationalistically perceive it as a symbol of Polish martyrdom? The survey reveals Poles insufficiently educated in this context; they do not know enough about what happened to the Jews in World War II and Auschwitz's role in the Holocaust. Emphasises necessity of having a program stressing Auschwitz's role in the destruction of Polish Jewry.
