Description

The rate of publication of their memoirs by Holocaust survivors has fluctuated but in the 1980s and 1990s, stimulated by mass media phenomena like the films "Schindler's List" and "Life is Beautiful" and the television series "Holocaust," it accelerated. While it is recognised that such memoirs may be flawed by their authors' faulty memories and by inaccuracies and contradictions, their value is undeniable. The advent of the personal computer in the closing years of the twentieth century facilitated the writing of such memoirs until, by its final decade, an estimated 3000 such volumes had appeared.
