A considerable number of first-generation Holocaust researchers were Polish Jews. Most of them left Poland in late 1940s and early 1950s and resettled in the United States, France, Israel or West Berlin. They all made important contributions to the documentation and research of the German mass murder
What connects them is the Central Jewish Historical Commission, from which the Jewish Historical Institute was formed
