Reflections of a young drama student growing up in Vienna in 1938.
In national or international affairs countries frequently react with silence to terrible events, such as when the Austrians after 1945 avoided answering questions as willing partners of Nazi Germany. This particular silence prevailed for 40 years until Kurt Waldheim in 1986 provoked a furious controversy in Austria which had come to think of itself as Hitler’s victim rather than an ally
