Levi stood as a liberal in 1892. He spoke frequently in the Council, usually on the conservative side. He was a committed Federalist as a member of the Victorian Federal League. He will always be honoured as the first Jew to be elected to the Victorian Parliament. He returned to his native Liverpool after 44 years as the official bearer of an Address to Queen Victoria on the occasion of her Daimond Jubilee
