This study shows that the Jewish question and its solution reflected a fundamental feature of Nazism, one that was structured in terms of a transfiguration of reversing meanings. Forms of thought, feeling, expression and behaviour rooted in historical tradition were now transferred to the political domain. Theology and religion were secularized while politics and the state became consecrated and served as a substitute religion
