Just a few days after the liberation of the Mauthausen camp, an investigating committee of the US Army aided by survivors began to collect evidence. Two dossiers were compiled which provided an important source of information for the preparation of future trials against members of the SS. The first of these reports was known as the "Taylor Report". The second witness for the prosecution was Ernst Martin, whose statement was more exhaustive
