Description
The camp slaughterhouse and dairy was located directly adjacent to the main camp. In 1942 it was taken over by German Foodstuffs Inc. and SS owned company. By the fall of 1944 it was the company's largest meat-processing plant. The prisoners employed in the slaughter house frequently broke the rules by adding meat marked for the SS to the products intended for the camp. Over time, the smuggling of contraband took on a more organized form. According to an estimate by a former KL Auschwitz prisoner, about 24 tons of meat was smuggled into the camp
