Description
Both dramatic and documentary film has received signficant critical and scholarly attention, particularly with respect to how to represent the victims of the Holocaust. The same degree of scrutiny has not been applied to the cinematic rerpesentation of perpetrators, bystanders or collaborators. In cinema the Nazis are simply represented as evil. The imagining of Nazis as monstrous creates a radical difference between them and us. Taking a different approach while considering them ordinary people not fundamentally different from us, is much more threatening to our own identity
